I REMEMBER THE 70s

It was a long ago iconic time, when love was free;
A time when causes were uncluttered as could be.
Make love, not war; Save the baby seals were founded,
Before hate filled diatribes and schoolyard killings abounded.

A time when music blended rhythm and rhyme sharp and gleaming;
A time you could sing along with a chorus, it wasn't just screaming.
Wages were low, but the necessities barely left your wallet with dents.
Bread was a quarter, and a gallon of gas was less than 50 cents.

There were hippies and yippies, bell bottoms and tie dye;
So much to see and do, all you had to do was try.
The Vietnam war and Watergate, draft dodgers and protests;
Before cell phones or internet, when people had house guests.

Oh, it had its own problems, but also plenty of perks;
Passions were more pure, people weren't such jerks.
At least so it seems to me, as I sit and reminisce,
On the days of my youth, and all the things I miss.
